When Jesse and I were scouting for Renee and Caleb’s Edgewood Inn wedding last Friday in Woodland Park, we ran into the typical Colorado mountain weather. First it was sunny and hot, then the clouds blew in. Then we had some nice sprinkles, which turned into a downpour and, suddenly, a torrent of hail. And almost as soon as it had started, the weather passed through and left us nice a cool with a beautiful sunset.
As we monitored the weather throughout Friday, we realized that we may be some of the only wedding photographers who hope for something other than perfect sunny weather and clear skies. Luckily, Colorado obliged. On Saturday, we heard distant rumbles as Renee and Caleb put the finishing touches on their wedding attire. For their first look, we had towering cumulus clouds in the background over Pikes Peak. Though the clouds were to the south, they were indicative of the weather coming in from the west.
We scrambled the wedding party into various vehicles and trucked over to Rampart Reservoir, where Jesse and I had found endless photo opportunities the day before. Renee and Caleb (and their wedding party) were up for whatever photo ideas we threw at them–including rock climbing in a spot where it takes over an hour for medical assistance, according to one very diligent park ranger. We were able to get a few photos before a driving rain drove us to shelter in our car and, eventually, back to the Edgewood Inn. Luckily, the weather blew over for the ceremony allowing for dramatic views of Pikes Peak.
The day wrapped up with a jaw-droppingly gorgeous sunset, two very happy newlyweds, and a lively party. A big thanks to both Renee and Caleb for having us as part of their wonderful day!
