Denver Vow Renewal
Most weekends, Jesse and I get to hang out with our clients at the beginning of their journey together. But for Natalie and Jay’s Denver vow renewal, we had the chance to spend the day with a couple who are 20 years into their adventure (with many more to go).
Now, if you’ve spent more than 10 minutes in my presence, you probably know that I like to ask probing questions. (Always feel free not to share; I take “no” as a complete answer.) So as we rode down from their vow renewal in the foothills and Natalie and Jay sipped champagne, I asked them what was on my mind: “What’s the best part about being married for 20 years?”
What followed was an amazing conversation about the joys of finding a true partner in life and how to maintain balance in a long-term partnership. We talked about the importance of having fun together and also growing as independent people within a couple. We laughed over their “honeymoon payment plan” that ensures they travel somewhere fun every single year. And they even shared a few of their secrets, including their code phrase for admitting they’re wrong while still saving face.
So while I still fully believe that the start of a marriage is well-worth celebrating, I hope that more folks will put as much into commemorating the continuation of their marriage as Natalie and Jay do every year.
Natalie and Jay, it was an absolute joy to get to know you and your family. We can’t wait to celebrate with you at the next one!
QUICK TIP
Instead of spending money on guest favors, consider putting more of your budget toward unique experiences. Wowing your friends and family with liquid nitrogen ice cream, a private concert, or beer burros will send them home with memories instead of trinkets that will get tossed.
