Considering a Destination Wedding?
We hesitate to brand ourselves as “destination wedding photographers” for two reasons. One, we shoot the majority of our weddings right here in sunny Colorado. The second reason is that this gorgeous place we are lucky enough to call home feels like a destination in and of itself. Colorado is such a vast and naturally-beautiful place, many couples these days are coming in from out of state to tie the knot here. In fact, nearly half of our weddings in Colorado over the past few years have been couples from other places. So, in a way, I guess that does make us destination wedding photographers!
With that said, we also really, really love to travel. We’ve been so many amazing places in our nearly two decades together, including Indonesia, New Zealand, Iceland, Scotland, Portugal, Costa Rica, and others. In fact, the first time we met one another was on Spring Break in the Bahamas during our senior year of college – a meet-cute story best told over beers. We’ve photographed weddings and engagement shoots in three countries and 14 states since then and we always welcome the opportunity to go somewhere we haven’t been before.
Shooting in a new location pushes us creatively and allows us to view things with a fresh set of eyes. Even when we shoot the same locations in Colorado multiple times, we’re always photographing each couple in a completely different way, but sometimes a new setting makes it that much easier to think outside the box and create something truly unique.
If you’re planning a wedding outside of Colorado (or outside of the United States), please reach out so we can talk about your vision for your wedding and see if we would be a good fit. In the meantime, feel free to take a look at some of our favorite destination weddings below.
To cap off our 2024 wedding season, we ventured out on a long road trip across five states for Hillary and Todd’s super fun Bend, Oregon wedding at Lake Creek Lodge. Since hitting my goal of visiting each of the 50 states back in 2016, I have since set another (loose) goal of photographing a…
Allie and Dustin booked us for their Montana destination wedding long before the word “pandemic” landed in our daily lexicon. They wanted plenty of time to plan the ultimate blowout celebration with all their closest friends and family, so they had planned their date two years in advance. Luckily, that meant that they skipped the whole 2020 rescheduling chaos and still got the wedding of their dreams.
It’s been a long time since we’ve taken a road trip, so it was a breath of fresh air to kick off 2021 with a drive down to Texas for McKenzie and Jake’s Houston wedding on New Year’s Day. Torrential downpours made the last 200 miles of the drive a bit treacherous, but we still…
As the last stop on our epic Mountain West Road Trip, after photo shoots in the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Summit County, Jesse and I headed northward for Heather and John’s Grand Teton elopement. We already knew their wedding was going to be a good time. After all, not every couple will travel…
I never went to summer camp growing up. Montana’s not really a summer camp kind of place. I’ve had friends who went to camp, first as campers and later as counselors. They have lifelong connections to the place and the people they met there. The way they talk about it has always made me wonder…
Sometimes things go “wrong” at weddings. Most of the time, it’s little things, like the ring bearer refusing to walk down the aisle when it’s go-time. Other times, it’s bigger things, like an eye infection, a sister with a broken leg, and a rogue sea urchin. But the true test of a couple is how…
Christa and Jeremy’s Washington, DC, wedding day started serenely. While the rental house bustled with general wedding chaos, Christa sat calmly in a room upstairs as her friend and bridesmaid, Cheyenne, set about doing her hair and makeup. Alternating sips of coffee and mimosa, Christa did her best to answer questions without disturbing Cheyenne’s artistry….
We first met Andrea and Chad when they came to Colorado to elope in Rocky Mountain National Park. They have a deep appreciation for nature…and whiskey…which made it feel like we’d known them our entire lives. So we were incredibly honored and excited to join them exactly a year and one day later for their…
If you read this blog regularly, you’re probably aware that we’re big advocates of doing what you want at your wedding. We see this play out in lots of ways – renting Big Buck Hunter or stage diving in your wedding dress, for example. For Aekta and John’s Texas winery wedding, it meant closing the…
To say that Cynthia and Tim are driven would be a massive understatement. She’s a grad student at Harvard and he’s a celebrated lawyer in Rhode Island. And while this would be more than enough responsibility for most people, they decided to also take on the challenge of planning a spectacular Rhode Island wedding! Though…
We’re back! We had a lovely two-week pause from photographing weddings, which we used to wrap up post-production on past weddings and do a whole lotta prep work for upcoming weddings (okay, and maybe we fit a brewery or two in there). And then, precisely a day after delivering the final gallery from our first…
Laissez les bon temps rouler! Jesse and I hopped a plane last weekend to go to the Big Easy for Carrie & Cody’s New Orleans destination wedding. The weather was gorgeous and the venue, Race & Religious, was steeped in Louisiana history. New Orleans is definitely one of our favorite cities in the world. The…
