Dream Lake Engagement

I’m not sure if Kenzie and Bo’s Dream Lake engagement session could have been any more authentically Colorado, swinging wildly between seasons like it wasn’t quite sure which month we were in. The adventure had the perfect mix of Type I and Type II fun that results in both an amazing experience and epic photos.

After a little bit of scheduling mayhem (thanks, crazy winter wind storm!), we met up at the Bear Lake parking lot on a beautiful December afternoon and hoofed it up to Dream Lake. Once we arrived, the wind was surprisingly calm and the spot felt warmer-than-expected, so Kenzie and Bo switched into their formal attire (complete with microspikes, in true Colorado fashion).

However, also in true Colorado fashion, the wind picked up and the temperatures dropped dramatically almost as soon as we started shooting. But Kenzie and Bo buckled down, thought warm thoughts and absolutely rocked the evening wear portion of their photos.

Once they couldn’t stand the chill any longer (which was about 10 times longer than I would have put up with it), they changed back into sensible hiking clothes and we got out of the wind. Colorado rewarded us with a breathtaking sunset on the hike down and a clear sky for nighttime star photos. After a little liquid warmer, of course.

Kenzie and Bo, I think we made the right decision to move forward with the engagement session. We could attempt to divine Colorado’s weather until the end of time, but your shoot reminded us that the best weather is whatever happens on the day of your shoot. We can’t wait to party with you again in August!
