Fall Wedding in Vail

Last weekend, rains swept through the mountains, clearing out the smoke from the many forest fires burning in the West. Luckily, that didn’t matter for Genevieve and Jon’s fall wedding in Vail. The Sonnenalp simply closed Ludwig’s glass roof and the ceremony continued on, sheltered from the rain but maintaining the beautiful forest-like atmosphere.

Genevieve and Jon met in college in Ohio. But, as multiple guests reminded them throughout the evening, they insisted that they were “just friends.” From the sounds of it, they were probably the last two people to realize that they were actually a couple. They bonded over a mutual love of all things aviation, which eventually brought them out to Colorado.

Since moving to Colorado, Vail Village has held an important place in their hearts; in fact, they got engaged beneath the famous covered bridge*. So, naturally, that’s where we headed for photos post-ceremony, when the sun finally decided to clear away the rain clouds. Our couple’s portraits included a jaunt down to the shore of Gore Creek, a quick stop for some whiskey, and an impromptu first dance in the middle of the Village to the acoustic stylings of Andy Cyphert.

Back at the reception, the Ohioans didn’t fail to deliver an awesome party. The celebration kicked off with a game of Thunderstruck and soon devolved into a reenactment of the first scene of the Lion King using a headphone-wearing baby as a stand-in for Simba.

Genevieve and Jon, we hope you have an amazing time on your tour of Europe. Eat, drink, and be merry; you’ve earned it!

*Side note: I just discovered this live webcam located at the covered bridge. They let you control it for two minutes. Guess what I just spent two minutes doing….

I’m not sure if Kenzie and Bo’s Dream Lake engagement session could have been any more authentically Colorado, swinging wildly between seasons like it wasn’t quite sure which month we were in. While Jesse and I have our own photo “bucket list,” we always love when couples have a crazy idea of their own for an Alt Session. Dani and Dean’s summer wedding at The Boulders had some reception entertainment we’d never seen before: an aura camera. If you’ve never had your aura photographed, I highly recommend it! The…
