Granby Ranch Wedding

As anyone from Colorado can tell you, certain parts of the Rocky Mountains turn a vibrant yellow color in the fall as the aspen leaves begin to change. This is the most popular time of year for family photos and one of the most popular times for weddings as well. But never have we seen a fall wedding timed so perfectly as Gina and Alex’s Granby Ranch wedding.

Unlike the Midwest (where I’m from), it’s extremely difficult to predict when the trees will start changing in Colorado. It could be 80 degrees in September, or it could be 30 degrees with a foot of snow. Add to that the varying elevations throughout the state and it’s anyone’s guess when the yellow will appear.

This isn’t an issue for family photos because you can typically schedule those sessions last-minute. But if you want a colorful fall wedding, you need to set your date a year or more in advance.

Enter Gina and Alex. They have a family cabin in Granby and frequently ski at nearby Winter Park Resort. Exactly one year before their wedding date, they visited the area to do a color check and, spoiler alert, the area passed the test.

Of course, that’s not a 100% guarantee the weather will follow the same pattern the following year, but Gina and Alex’s due diligence paid off. Granby Ranch was a sea of bright yellow on their wedding day, making for one of the most beautiful backdrops we’ve seen in our nearly two decades of photographing weddings.

Gina and Alex, thank you so much for having us at your Granby Ranch wedding, and for picking the most perfect day and the most perfect location possible to say “I do.”
