Maybe you’re wondering…

Why mentoring?

Workshops are great for networking, relationship building and learning in a group setting. But as a photographer and as a business person, you can sometimes benefit from a little one-on-one instruction as well. This way, the material is catered specifically to you instead of a group of 10-15 people.

What to expect

This isn’t one of those aimless pay-to-pick-our-brain-for-30-minutes kind of “mentoring” relationships. Our mentoring sessions are 90-minute video calls in which we’ll work through your challenges and help you meet your goals in a particular area. Most sessions also include a follow-up meeting a week or so later to check in on your progress, allow you to ask clarifying questions and address any additional challenges that may have come up.

BONUS – If you have a photo friend/colleague who needs help in the same area, you can split the cost of the session and join together (limit tw0-photographer split).

“I’ve been a professional photographer for 20 years and this is by far the best thing I’ve done for my career.”

“One of the most important things I’ve done for my business”

“I did a six-month one-on-one mentorship with the La Plantes and it was one of the most important things I’ve done for my business. Being able to walk through my own portfolio with their eyes and experience helped me see areas I needed to improve and how to push myself even in the areas I felt very competent in. Their guidance has influenced every wedding I’ve photographed since then and not only do I find my work improving, but I find my satisfaction in how I approach and work through the wedding day increasing as well. I can’t recommend these to you enough, and will forever be grateful for their guidance as I continue this journey.”

Moira and Jesse have been the single most important influence on my photography career. They have been my mentors for both the art and business of wedding photography for many years. My business would absolutely not be in a successful place without Moira’s sage advice throughout the years. Jesse has a keen insight into the art of photography and is an expert at explaining everything from the basics of artistic composition to high-level, very technical lighting concepts. He’s a great teacher both in the “classroom” and out in the field: demonstrating techniques on the fly. Overall, I cannot stress enough how highly I value Jesse and Moira’s mentorship. Their knowledge and guidance is worth any amount of investment.”

Meet Jesse & Moira

You probably want to know who’s piloting this ship, huh?

Jesse and Moira La Plante are Colorado-based photographers who have been shooting weddings since 2008. They first met in the Bahamas on spring break when Jesse (allegedly) offered to buy Moira a drink at an all-inclusive resort. Shortly after that fateful trip, the pair moved to Colorado, started their wedding photography business and never looked back.

In 2023, Jesse was named Fearless Top 25, ISPWP Top 25 and (along with Moira) This is Reportage Top 20. When not photographing weddings, he can be found skiing, eating copious amounts of tacos and/or working on his beer belly at one of Colorado’s many outstanding craft breweries.

After graduating from Georgetown University with a business degree, Moira honed her problem-solving skills by working in many different arenas – from academia to atmospheric science research to entrepreneurship – before migrating to the wedding industry. When not figuring out how to do the impossible, she can be found with her nose in a book or devising ways to spend more time around puppies.
