Pinery at the Hill Wedding
If you think about it, the odds of finding your soulmate, out of the 7.5 billion+ people on this planet, are slim to none. In fact, someone did the math and it turns out that, “…you would find true love only in one lifetime out of 10,000.” I’m usually pretty scientifically minded, but Melissa and Justin’s Pinery at the Hill wedding has me second guessing this calculation.
I’m not sure I’ve ever seen two people so perfect for each other. Melissa and Justin both have the same ability to have fun no matter where they are or what they’re doing. They have the same off-beat sense of humor. They even composed incredibly similar vows, without being aware of what the other was writing.
Yet, what will really reinforce their relationship against whatever life throws at them is their shared sense of adventure. I don’t always love this phrase, sense of adventure, because it gets used too easily and too often. It’s all but lost its meaning in the past few years. But we knew that Melissa and Justin have a true sense of adventure when we set up their Alt Session way back in June of last year. Jesse and I had been wanting to do a trampoline/Holi powder photo session for a while, but had difficulty pitching it since we couldn’t really describe how the photos would turn out. After all, we didn’t know ourselves! I’m not sure I had even finished saying, “trampoline/Holi powder session” before they both said yes (in unison) to that idea. Then, on the day of the engagement session, they f*cking brought it, doing backflips and happily letting me throw powder in their faces.
This unique blend of openness and eagerness also spilled over to the wedding day. Between the end of their wedding reception and the start of their sure-to-be-epic after party, we stole them away for some nighttime photos. Knowing we had willing participants meant we were able to do all three nighttime ideas that had been brewing in Jesse’s noggin all day long. Including one that had all of us tromping through snow in below-freezing temps past a flock of surly geese. Even though I had been witness to Melissa and Justin’s amazing relationship all day, this idea of soulmates didn’t occur to me until I watched Justin give his jacket to Melissa to keep warm (after she had insisted she didn’t need it, even though she did) and then forge a path through the snow for her to walk on so that she didn’t get snow in her wedding shoes.
May we all be so lucky to find someone who understands and accepts us as completely as Melissa and Justin do each other. These two are surfing a wavelength of their own and enjoying every minute of it. All said and done, this Pinery at the Hill wedding was one for the books!
Melissa and Justin, we hope you’re having an amazing time in Jackson. Ski both some gnarly lines and some blue groomers for us!
