Sapphire Point Wedding
After nearly 18 years of photographing weddings in Colorado, it’s rare that we experience a first on a wedding day. But Jenna and Cody’s wintery Sapphire Point wedding in Breckenridge was absolutely chock-full of firsts.
For starters, both Moira and I got to photograph the bride getting ready. I’m usually off somewhere else with the groom (or the other bride), but I had the opportunity to spend about 20 minutes in the bride’s room with Moira at the beginning of the day for the first time that I can recall.
We also took the couple out onto a frozen lake for photos before the ceremony. We’ve shot on frozen lakes for engagement sessions and post-wedding sessions in the past, but never on the wedding day.
We also had the pleasure of watching (and photographing) Jenna and Cody get tattoos before their ceremony. They each had a small moon eclipsing the sun tattooed on their ring fingers, in lieu of exchanging weddings bands. I’ve been in many a tattoo shop over the years, but again, never on a wedding day.
We’ve also never photographed a wedding ceremony at Sapphire Point. I’m not sure how that’s even possible considering the sheer number of years we’ve been photographing weddings, but regardless, we were stoked to be able to finally check this off of our bucket list.
And finally, one of Colorado’s most well-known tourist attractions: cannabis! Every now and then, somebody sparks up at the end of a long wedding day, but the magic herb was prevalent throughout the entirety of Jenna and Cody’s Sapphire Point wedding – another first for us. It provided a really mellow, relaxed and joyful mood throughout the entire day. Sometimes, weddings can be a bit stressful with tight timelines that force everyone to hurry from one event to the next without being able to truly enjoy yourself and be present in the moment. That was absolutely not the case for this wedding. Each moment was experienced fully and savored gratefully.
Jenna and Cody, thank you both so much for allowing us to be a part of your day. We had so much fun with you two and we hope to see you back in the Rockies again before too long!
QUICK TIP
You may have noticed a theme with these blog post tips, which could be summarized as “do what you want to do on your wedding day, not what you’re told to do.” It feels like the wedding industry can be unnecessarily concerned with trends and what is “in” in any given year. That’s why it’s a breath of fresh air every time a couple decides to go against the grain and do their own thing.
Want to get tattoos instead of wedding bands? Very cool. Want to smoke a joint before your ceremony? We fully support that. Whatever it is that makes you unique and separates you from the masses, feel free to lean into that on your wedding day. Your wedding will be so much more enjoyable if you do.
