Secrets Bahia Mita Wedding

A little over 10 years ago, we had the pleasure of photographing a wedding in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. The bride was a friend of mine from high school and the three days we spent with her and her husband (and their families) were an absolute blast. Fast forward to August of this year, I had an overwhelming (and much needed) feeling of dĂ©jĂ  vu at Mallori and Jason’s Secrets Bahia Mita wedding!

The first time we met the bride- and groom-to-be in person, it was while we were all drinking cocktails in the pool overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Not too shabby. Since we always aim to arrive at least two days early for destination weddings, we had plenty of time to decompress, swim, drink, location scout, and play a bit of beach volleyball before the wedding festivities.

The party raged on over the next three days. Despite the heat, and the humidity, and the eventual rain, the crew persevered like champions. At one point just after dinner, we asked Mallori if they were going to move the party indoors and out of the rain. To which she replied, “No, we’re partying out here all night!” Now that is the spirit!

If you ever hear me or Moira complaining about our job in the future, please put us back in line by reminding us of this wedding and how lucky we were to have experienced it. The entire day (and week) was just pure joy and revelry from start to finish.

Mallori and Jason, thank you a million times for trusting us to photograph your Secrets Bahia Mita wedding. Any time you want to hit the pool bar in the future, we’ll be there in a heartbeat. Salud, amigos!

Last weekend’s weather sort of jerked us around. It snowed most of Friday and into early Saturday morning. But then Saturday was sunny and in the 40s. Normally, this would be fantastic, but we were hoping the snow stuck around for Derae and Dillon’s Loveland engagement session. Derae had her heart set on a winter…

Wedding days will go wrong. They’ll be imperfect. But with the right attitude, they can be more enjoyable and create more lasting memories than a “perfect” wedding day. Moira and I always talk about how the single best thing you can do on your wedding day is relinquish control. Go with the flow. Roll with the punches. Never has this idea come to fruition more so than it did at Thy and Cristian’s Breckenridge elopement. Things are inevitably going to go “wrong” on…

Five days after we made it home from our New Year’s Day wedding in Houston, we were back on the road once again. This time, our destination was southern Colorado for Emily and Tyler’s super fun (and super cold) Bishop Castle engagement. Billed as the world’s “largest one-man project,” the castle sits on two and…
