Sedona Engagement Session

We wasted zero time starting 2026 as we drove to Nashville, Tennessee to teach three classes at Imaging USA at the beginning of January. Then we turned right around and doubled back to northern Arizona for Sarah and Adam’s incredibly fun Sedona engagement session!

Usually, when we do destination engagements or weddings, we plan to arrive at least two days in advance. One day for buffer in case of travel delays, and one day to spend scouting. But to our great delight, Sarah and Adam had already done the scouting for us!

A few months before the session, they drove up to Sedona from the Phoenix area to take a look around. Despite not being photographers themselves, they managed to find the perfect spot for photos for their session. The morning Moira and I arrived in Sedona, I did a sunrise hike at the location they found and I knew immediately that I wouldn’t have to look any further. The area checked all of my photographer boxes.

That evening, we met Sarah and Adam for star photos. If star photos are important to the couple and the skies are clear the evening before the session, we like to go out and grab those shots while we can because you never know when clouds will roll in.

The next morning, we woke before dawn and did a four(ish)-mile hike just before and after sunrise to capture the golden morning light illuminating the impressive red rock formations Sedona is so well known for. By the time the crowds began to arrive we had already finished our session. All that was left to do was say our good-byes and make the 10-hour trek back to Colorado where our heads hit our pillows like two sacks of cement.

Sarah and Adam, thank you both so much for scouting for your Sedona engagement session, for getting lost with us in the dark to capture the stars, and for waking up early for a cold, morning hike. We can’t wait to see you both again in October!
