Solar Eclipse Engagement
The very first time I spoke with JaimeJo on the phone, before she and Nick had even booked us, her first question was, “What are you doing on August 21st?” She explained that she really wanted a solar eclipse engagement session, and that was the date of what’s come to be known as the Great American Eclipse.
Of course, we said yes! Jesse and I are always up for doing something new and different. And the last solar eclipse we had attempted to photograph was obscured by clouds. While we didn’t have time to trek all the way to the path of totality, we did settle on the top of Vail mountain for the experience.
After obsessively checking the cloud coverage predictions all week, I was thrilled on Monday morning to see that there was not a cloud in the sky. We took a short ride in the gondola to the top of Vail mountain. Then, while I followed JaimeJo and Nick into the bar, Jesse did the responsible thing and found us a nice viewing spot, away from any crowds.
I’ll admit that, leading up to the eclipse, I didn’t quite get the draw – perhaps because my previous experience was so underwhelming. However, once the eclipse started, I had to keep reminding myself to take photos because I was too distracted by staring at the sun (with proper eclipse glasses, of course!). It was amazing to experience the drop in temperature and watch as the world got a little dimmer in the middle of the day. Even more impressive were the photos that Jesse captured!
Once the sun had come back out in its full glory, we all made the trek to Gore Creek Campground to share a few beverages and take some photos of JaimeJo and Nick doing one of their favorite activities: camping in Colorado.
JaimeJo and Nick, you are two of the most kindhearted and genuine people we’ve ever met. We so enjoyed collaborating with you on this photo shoot and cannot wait for your wedding next year!
