Spruce Mountain Ranch Wedding
Jesse and I always say that it’s your wedding’s imperfections that make it memorable. And that’s true, I promise. But we don’t ever hope that one of your wedding’s imperfections is food poisoning. Unfortunately for Ajay and Jacob, the night before their Spruce Mountain Ranch wedding brought just that.
Now, normally, I wouldn’t start off a wedding blog post talking about food poisoning. But in this case, it’s necessary exposition. Because while Ajay and Jacob stole a few more quiet moments to themselves before the beautiful chaos of the wedding day began, I headed to Ajay’s parents’ room for some getting ready photos with his family. That’s where Ajay’s mother, Usha, made a fleeting comment that stayed with me the entire day.
When I arrived, Ajay’s sister, Maya, who had also been affected, was gathering her strength. She was officiating the wedding and was so cognizant of not taking any attention away from the couple. (This awareness and care was something I saw all day long from everyone in both Ajay’s and Jacob’s families.) As Usha helped Maya get dressed, she said something that stuck with me: “Everything will be fine. It’s going to be a beautiful day. And we have wonderful music to dance to and celebrate with.”
And everything was fine. More than that, as Usha had predicted, music and dancing provided an energy and celebratory atmosphere throughout the entire day. Beginning with the liveliest baraat we’ve ever seen, the music filled the grooms and their guests with joy while the October sun warmed the crowd. Later, Ajay and Jacob walked down the aisle to the epic and sweeping Jupiter, Bringer of Jollity – one of my favorite classical pieces and a unique processional song. Then the evening wrapped up with even more merriment, first with the funky Super Magick band, followed by a frenzy of traditional Indian music spun by Mitesh Entertainment.
So thank you, Dr. Usha, for your accurate wedding prognosis. And thank you to Ajay and Jacob and both of your families for including us in your vibrant wedding! Let us know when you make it out to Colorado again and we can all meet up in a cozy mountain coffee shop.
