Summer Wedding at Denver Botanic Gardens
We’ve been working at the Denver Botanic Gardens for the past 15 years. It’s one of our favorite places to shoot weddings and to hang out, just for fun, taking in the plethora of flora throughout the grounds. Elizabeth and John’s summer wedding at Denver Botanic Gardens marked the first time we have photographed both a wedding ceremony and reception together on the same day at DBG. And what a joy it was to to spend an extended period of time photographing in such a magical place.
Elizabeth and John made full use of the grounds, starting with a ceremony at Annuals Garden and Pavilion, followed by post-ceremony portraits near the Romantic Gardens. Then it was off to the Orangery for cocktail hour and dinner. Finally, the couple and their guests recessed to Marnie’s Pavilion for toasts and dance party.
Our favorite thing about this wedding day was the presence of color. At a time in which the wedding industrial complex does its best to steer couples toward the trendy, desaturated look for their palette, Elizabeth and John fully eschewed that stylistic dogma.
From the abundant florals and greenery surrounding us at every turn, to portraits in front of the Chihuly sculpture (a “non-negosh,” as John put it) to the evening’s festivities in Marnie’s Pavilion – which is basically a tropical jungle with cool lighting in the middle of downtown Denver – every bit of their day was filled with vibrant color.
Elizabeth and John, we can’t tell you how much we enjoyed spending the day with you at your summer wedding at Denver Botanic Gardens. Your joy and laughter was infectious!
QUICK TIP
Whether it’s a desaturated color palette, matching bridesmaids dresses, TikTok dances, or photographers who exclusively use direct flash, you are by no means required to abide by the prevailing wedding trends of the time. In fact, we would strongly recommend against doing so. If something is incredibly popular in this moment, it’s likely to feel dated in the very near future. Nobody wants to look back on their wedding day and think “Oh God, that was so 2024.”
