Vail Wedding

Being avid skiers, Jesse and I absolutely love Vail in the winter; it might possibly be our favorite mountain (shhh, don’t tell Beaver Creek). However, it’s just as spectacular in the summer, especially when you invite your favorite friends and family up to 8,000 ft. for a celebration. So when Andrea and Shawn asked us to photograph their Lion Square Lodge wedding, we jumped at the chance.

Andrea & Shawn moved from Texas to Colorado independently and ended up working at the same company. Shawn was in IT and jumped at any chance to help Andrea with her computer, and the rest, as they say, is history. In their years together, the ups and downs they’ve been through have only brought them closer. It was touching to see all their pre-ceremony nerves melt away once they were at each others’ sides again.

After the ceremony at the Vail Interfaith Chapel, we killed some time taking gorgeous photos at the base of the mountain while we waited for a small storm to pass through before we hopped on the gondola to take gorgeous photos at the top of the mountain. At over 10,000 ft. and with the storm clouds in the background, the jaw-dropping vista was even more incredible.

We returned to the cocktail reception beneath the tent at Lion Square Lodge where Andrea and Shawn had a rockin’ introduction as husband and wife. Following dinner, all the guests joined in a wedding march polka, a long-running tradition in the bride’s family. The polka led into Andrea and Shawn’s first dance as husband and wife, followed by cake and ice cream sundaes (including brownies, Shawn’s favorite dessert). We stole the newlyweds away from their party for a few moments to take nighttime photos beneath the lights in Vail Square before sending Andrea and Shawn back to party for the rest of the night.

Andrea and Shawn, thank you so much for allowing us to capture your incredible Lion Square Lodge wedding. We can’t wait until the next time our paths cross!

Sometimes, like for Melisa and Sam’s Copper Mountain wedding, it’s just to see if it’s going to rain, snow,…

When Taryn and Tim started planning their Acreage wedding, Taryn asked me a question that I love to get asked by couples: What can we do to make your job easier? My answer is always the same. Be as type-A and detail-oriented as your heart desires during the planning. But on the actual wedding day,…
