Washington DC Wedding
Christa and Jeremy’s Washington, DC, wedding day started serenely. While the rental house bustled with general wedding chaos, Christa sat calmly in a room upstairs as her friend and bridesmaid, Cheyenne, set about doing her hair and makeup. Alternating sips of coffee and mimosa, Christa did her best to answer questions without disturbing Cheyenne’s artistry.
Meanwhile, 20 miles away next to the University of Maryland, Jeremy and his groomsmen were making sure all ties were straight and all cuffs were linked properly. And because it took them a fraction of the time to get ready–isn’t that always the case?–they rewarded themselves (and Jesse) by reliving their Scotch Club days.
After the preparations, we all convened at the University of Maryland for the main event, where Christa and Jeremy exchanged vows in a ceremony officiated by the groom’s father.
The stately beauty of the UMD memorial chapel soon gave way to a raucous party on the bus as we drove around DC for portraits. We left the wedding party to their shenanigans while Christa and Jeremy braved the chilly weather outside the bus and joined us at Meridian Hill Park. To keep his new wife’s mind off of the cold, Jeremy treated us (and all the other park visitors) to a one-man performance of a Disney song medley.
At the reception, the newlyweds changed attire before joining their parents in a traditional Korean pyebaek on stage. This was particularly intriguing as the pyebaek is usually performed in private with just the couple and the family elders present. Instead, Christa and Jeremy’s guests gathered to watch chestnuts thrown, tea poured, and piggyback rides given! Then there was nothing to keep them from their party, which included a rousing karaoke rendition of Gangnam Style! All in all, this Washington DC wedding was one for the books.
Big thanks to Anissa Rahman for shooting with us and being an expert navigator as we maneuvered through the narrow streets of DC.
Christa and Jeremy (and Collins), thank you so much for trusting us to capture all the love and crazy fun of your wedding day. It’s always an honor to be chosen by another photographer!
