Denver Micro Wedding

We had the most epic Alt Session planned for Emily and Jake. I was in the midst of arranging locations and timing right around mid-March. So, yeah. That didn’t happen. But I feel like we ended up with the brightest cloud lining; instead, we got to join Emily and Jake and their families for a backyard micro wedding in Denver last weekend!

Jesse and I have never been drawn to the “perfect” weddings that you see in magazines and on blogs. You know the ones. They’ve got approximately a million-dollar budget for florals alone. With the exception of the couple, you’ll never see any people in the photos. Heck, there are even magazines out there that won’t publish a wedding if there are salt and pepper shakers on the tables. These aren’t our jam.

Instead, what we love about weddings are the people. The couples who decide to make their wedding truly their own and roll with whatever is thrown their way, from ordering a wedding dress from the same Australian prom dress company that supplies the contestants on The Bachelor to picking up a last minute six-pack of silicone rings from WalMart. The tiny ring bearer who hasn’t the slightest idea that this is an important event; he just knows that his shirt is scratchy and he’s definitely going to spill on it later. And our favorite guests are the people that the couple would choose if there happened to be, say, a global pandemic that drastically limits the amount of people you can safely celebrate with. Top it all off with carte blanche to pick portrait locations and control over the timeline and you have two very happy photographers.

This Denver micro wedding had oh-so-many of our favorite things….

Emily and Jake, thank you so much for keeping us in mind as your plans changed! We’re thrilled that we got a chance to work together and can’t wait for the next time. We also expect great things from your holiday card.
