Steamboat Springs Wedding

Jesse and I sometimes put our couples through a lot of difficult tasks in pursuit of great photos. We’ve had couples do everything from hiking the sand dunes in formal attire to running out in the middle of traffic between green lights. It was no different at Jen and Whitney’s Steamboat Springs wedding. But not only did they say yes to everything we asked, they did it in dresses and heels, on the side of a mountain.

Following their stunning mountaintop ceremony, Jen and Whitney followed us around Mount Werner from one beautiful vista to another. At one point, they even climbed down a wooded slope with no actual hiking path. When we asked them if they were comfortable doing it, they looked at each other, nodded, hiked up their dresses and headed downhill, beneath branches and over logs. And they did so far more gracefully than I did in my flats!

Now, we knew ahead of time that Jen and Whitney were both adventurous and capable. They met in the gym and share a passion for cross fit. They’ve traveled the world together and are always looking for the next place to explore. But mostly, we were tipped off during the timeline consultation when they suggested trying to do a photo on the Outlaw Mountain Coaster. We, of course, were more than game!

While they sweet-talked their way onto the roller coaster, we hauled our 50 lbs of equipment halfway up the mountain to find the perfect vantage point. Then we waited. Just when I was starting to wonder if the roller coaster operators turned them down, I saw a car heading up the mountain, filled to the brim with poofy white dresses. Knowing that we only had one chance to get our shots, Jesse and I divided and conquered and in a matter of seconds, the brides flew by and we snapped away!

Then it was on to the reception, which was filled with tequila shots, the best rendition of Iggy Azalea’s Fancy that I’ve ever heard, and an amazingly tempting dessert table spread.

Jen and Whitney, thank you so much for letting us be part of your Steamboat Springs wedding day, and more importantly for your enthusiasm to try anything we threw at you! We hope you have an amazing trip to Europe and that you see at least one Great Dane (the dog breed, not the residents of Denmark)!
