Denver Clock Tower Wedding

A lot of people right now are going on and on about knowing that a couple is good together by how much grace they’ve had while planning a pandemic wedding. That’s true, to an extent. But after watching Hanna and Dan’s Denver Clock Tower wedding, I’ve found a much better measure.

I discovered this during our portrait time on wedding days. Now, I really love the time we get with couples for portraits. We always pad the timing so we can create a brief sanctuary in the middle of the wedding day where things can slow down. It gives the couple a chance to get away from the chaos and noise. It also gives us a chance to observe the couple together. We get to see how they tease each other, how they look out for each other, how they laugh together.

But the absolute best part comes when I’m giving directions on posing and we move from a portrait with the couple looking in the same direction to looking at each other. For Hanna and Dan, every time I told them to look at each other, without fail, they’d both break out into goofy, love-struck grins. And this, my friends, is my Perfect Couple Test.

I had already noticed this during Hanna and Dan’s Alt Session at the Royal Gorge Bridge, but it was undeniably prevalent on their wedding day. They’d patiently listen to my stories or terrible dad jokes (they even laughed at some of them). And then I’d tell them, “Ok, now turn to face each other,” and it would happen. Those smiles. The laughter. The absolute giddiness of getting married.

Every. Single. Time.

So folks, if you haven’t already, find someone who just can’t help breaking into an ear-to-ear grin when they look at you. If you’ve already found that person, hold tightly to them. It’s this kind of connection that will sustain you through life’s trials and tribulations.

Hanna and Dan, your wedding was perfect. You two are perfect. And there is no doubt in my mind that, together, you can weather anything this crazy worlds throws at you. We are so honored to have been part of your covid-safe celebration!
