If I were to write a checklist on how to personalize your wedding – not what the wedding industrial complex tells you and a million other couples is “unique,” but what you can actually do to personalize your wedding – I would use Jess and Chris’s Lionsgate wedding as an example.
How do you feel about public speaking? Are you one of the 75% of Americans with glossophobia, but you want to tell your soon-to-be spouse how you feel with a little more pizzazz than “for better or worse”? You can exchange private vows during your portrait session. We promise, we’re way more focused on taking photos than listening in.
Do you have fond memories of those sparkly and new weeks when you were first dating? Incorporate those fond memories into your day, like Jess and Chris did with Connect4. (P.S. Hasbro, we’re open to talk about sponsorship.)

Lots of people don’t like cake and that’s 100% OK. No one will care if including your favorite dessert means that you don’t have a cake topper. Peanut butter cups, anyone?
And with the money you’ve saved on the cake topper, you can go out and purchase a nine-liter bottle of beer from your favorite brewery for your guests to imbibe on your wedding day. I promise you that it will be far more memorable than Coors Light.
And if anyone tries to tell you that these things are wrong because they aren’t “traditional” or what you’re “supposed to do,” just smile and say, “I’ll take that under consideration.” Jess and Chris’s Lionsgate wedding is evidence of how well this mindset can work when planning a wedding.
