TenMile Station Wedding

Jesse and I have traveled extensively. One of the things that’s stuck with me throughout our wanderings is that every single state thinks that they have claims on the phrase, “Don’t like the weather? Wait five minutes.” I’m here to say that Colorado has officially cemented its rightful ownership. Just ask anyone who attended Kristin and Greg’s TenMile Station wedding last weekend.

We had a taste of the fickle weather last year when Kristin and Greg joined us in Rocky Mountain National Park for an engagement session in May. While the weather in Denver was a comfortable 70 degrees and sunny, we had snow, ice, and freezing temps in the Park.

But when Kristin and Greg brought their closest friends and family out to Breckenridge all the way from Atlanta for their wedding, I’m not sure any of us could have guessed what the weather would do. The afternoon of their welcome party brought a torrential downpour. Guests dodged rain showers while sampling some fine microbrews. Then, less than 20 minutes later, the Colorado sun came out with a vengeance.

Then came the wedding day. As I photographed the ladies’ preparations high up on the fifth floor of One Ski Hill Place, we watched the weather go from abundant sun to clouds that filled the valley below us back to sun.

We lucked out for the ceremony with big fluffy clouds and sun that made the 60-degree high feel at least 10 degrees warmer. As everyone grabbed a drink and got cozy in the reception area following the ceremony, the temp dropped and the wind blew in the storm we had all been worried about. Throughout dinner, toasts and dancing, the sky let loose with rain, hail and graupel.

And in a truly spectacular finish, Kristin and Greg left their TenMile Station wedding reception through a tunnel of cell phone flashlight-wielding guests into a swirling snowstorm.
