History Colorado Wedding

Rashni and GEHS’s History Colorado wedding this weekend celebrated not only the joining of two families in marriage, but also the joining of two countries:  the United States and Canada, our neighbor to the North. And what better day to do it than Canada Day?

The couple exchanged vows at Washington Park‘s Mount Vernon Garden before heading off to do a couple’s portrait session with us around Denver. Since they’re both big hockey fans, we obviously had to start at the Pepsi Center, the home of the Avs, with the appropriate flags and hockey sticks.

From the Pepsi Center, we headed down to the Convention Center to get some photos with the Big Blue Bear. Unbeknownst to us until just that morning, Denver’s Comic Con was going on, which made us a little worried about parking. Luckily, GEHS has his commercial driver’s license and effortlessly parked the Suburban in a just-barely-big-enough parking space. This may be the first time we’ve been in a crowded location and gotten almost no gawkers. Most everyone there assumed they were cosplaying!

Our photo session continued into RiNo to incorporate some of the amazing street art murals. After a break for lunch, caffeine, and to back up photos, we finished up their portraits at History Colorado, just moments before all their guests arrived for the cocktail reception.

But, perhaps the most exciting and surprising moment of the day was when Rashni & GEHS were introduced into their dinner reception. While their wedding party preceded them with the Canadian and American flags, the newlyweds entered on rollerblades and in costume. All 200 of their guests stood and sang the Canadian and American national anthems before dining in a magical Disney-esque woodland.

Before Jesse and I headed off to back-up photos and enjoy a glass of whiskey, we had to try a kind of photo we’ve never done before. Rashni, GEHS and I headed over to their hotel room at The ART Hotel (hey, get your mind out of the gutters!) and Jesse went out on the fourth-floor balcony of History Colorado. The result? A spectacular Rear Window-style nighttime photograph.

Rashni and GEHS, thank you so much for having us at your amazing History Colorado wedding. We can’t wait until our paths cross again!

Jesse and I have traveled extensively. One of the things that’s stuck with me throughout our wanderings is that every single state thinks that they have claims on the phrase, “Don’t like the weather? Wait five minutes.” I’m here to say that Colorado has officially cemented its rightful ownership. Just ask anyone who attended Kristin…

As anyone who lives in a travel destination knows, there’s the version of your town that the tourists see. We started our local’s tour…

On our drive up to Kelly and Nick’s Boettcher Mansion wedding on the top of Lookout Mountain, we were a little concerned that we wouldn’t have the views of the mountains we were hoping for.
